The amount of plague hearts varies depending on the difficulty. Some survivors (like the neighbour from the tutorial) might have missions related to eliminating Plague Hearts. Once the Command Centre is upgraded to level 2, players may access the radio to ask The Network for a Plague Heart location. When a heart is discovered, an indicator will appear at the location, signifying that it is infested. Survey Points tend to be best and safest way to scout a Plague Heart location. The locations of Plague Hearts may vary in every map, but they can be found in few ways. Plague Territory also becomes the frequent spawning area of Plague Zombies and (on any difficulty above normal) Plague Freaks - variants of Zombie Freaks that are infected with Blood Plague. Plague claimed structures can be distinguished on the world map by a crimson red icon. If a structure is within a Plague Territory caused by 2 or more Plague Hearts, both must be destroyed before claiming it - the same goes to potential Home Sites. This mist will 'claim' sites, rendering them unclaimable unless the Plague Heart(s) in the area are destroyed. Plague Hearts will now have a wider radius of bloody mist. Locations of plague territory vary but as stated by patch notes, 'Plague hearts tend to congregate where humans do, so expect valuable bases and outposts, as well as denser neighbourhoods, to be covered by plague territory'. Wide areas around a plague heart will contain the red 'plague mist'. Survivors have to deplete the bars one by one, as the wall will become immune after one bar is emptied, meaning at least 3 Plague Busters are needed to destroy one wall.Īctive Plague Walls have only existed in the Heartland DLC for now, and there is no indication if they will feature on State of Decay 3.Īs of Update 25, Plague Hearts now have a more profound effect on the environment. A wall's heath consists of three small bars and when all are depleted, the wall will be destroyed. ![]() These new structures are immune to melee or gunfire unless exposed to a biochemical explosive that weakens the Wall's defences, allowing survivors to kill it with conventional weapons.Ī hardened Plague Bloater acts as a weak point which is susceptible against the Plague Buster. On State of Decay 2: Heartland, Blood Plague evolved again, creating Plague Walls. Remaining Hearts will become even tougher to kill when another is destroyed, increasing this resource drain. Plague Hearts are the easiest source of Plague Samples, at the disadvantage of needing additional resources to destroy. A Plague Heart will not disintegrate unless all lootable items are picked up. Afterwards, its open carcass will contain Plague Samples, and valuable items such as a knife, a melee weapon (bladed, blunt, or heavy), a heavily damaged firearm (mostly a JL94 Civilian), medicinal items, and even snacks. When it receives fatal damage, the heart will explode upward, at times the explosion will create additional blood plague gas. In harder modes, the heart can summon a Feral or Plague Feral when taking damage. At the same time, it can summon plague zeds to protect itself. When attacked and damaged, it will defend itself at medium and critical damage levels by emitting deadly gas within a small radius. ![]() ![]() In close proximity to a heart, it can be heard beating and pulsing. ![]() On harder difficulties, there are always Plague Zeds inside the infested structure. Survivors will often note a foul smell, the taste of blood in the air, and the abundance of Plague Zombies every time they enter the vicinity of a heart. The mist now covers a large radius after Plague Territory was introduced. Plague Hearts consist of 4 plague zombies clustered together to form a one large beating heart like a living creature with crimson emanating light in its internal muscles.Ī structure infested by a plague heart is shrouded by dark red mist, a tall red cloud that indicates the building which is affected, and plague zombies that roam the vicinity. The Blood Plague and Plague Hearts may have appeared after the Black Fever outbreak, or as a separate strain of the original pathogen.
